For those of you who do not know me, my name is Cara Song. My brother is Senator Anthony Song (D, HI), and I am the reincarnate of Padmé Amidala. I say this only by way of introduction. What needs to be said today has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with this country.
One of my brothers colleague's, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, was just shot at point blank range in Tucson, Arizona. There are many conflicting reports of the incident circulating the news, but she's currently in surgery. No one knows much more than that. Please keep her in your thoughts, and don't assume anything about how or why this happened. The gunman's motives are endless and unknowable, but the fact remains that this was allowed to happen by your lawmakers. Gun control is a serious issue, and one that is almost always pushed aside in favor of our so-called rights. At least nine other people were killed or seriously injured today along with Congresswoman Giffords. No one has the right to do that.
This is not the time to stand idly by and hope that your leaders make the right decisions. If this bothers you, contact your representatives. Let your voices be heard. Change only happens if you make it happen. Thank you. |
